The problem is that the caves operate with fixed-time passes, so the time you come out is decided in advance, and on it depends whether you will find a free table at the port or end up staring at "full" signs. This guide is ordered by the time of your pass, not by a list of restaurants.
What time do you leave the Caves of Drach and when is a good time to eat?
The visit lasts about an hour: a 1,200-meter underground tour, a live classical music concert on Lake Martel—117 meters long, one of the largest underground lakes in the world—and the exit. Add to that about fifteen minutes of queuing to get in and back to the parking lot.

The critical time slots are 12:00 and 14:00. The first one leaves you right in the middle of the port's rush hour; the second, when many coastal restaurants are starting to close. In both cases, the interior is a better option.
Where to eat in Porto Cristo, less than five minutes from the caves?
Porto Cristo is just over a kilometer from the cave entrance and is the obvious choice: a seafront promenade, a marina, and a row of restaurants with terraces overlooking the harbor mouth. Rice dishes, grilled fish, and port cuisine predominate, with very reasonable prices.
Things to know: Between 1:30 and 3:00 pm in summer, the seafront promenade gets very crowded with cave tour groups and beach tourists. Without a reservation, the wait can easily exceed half an hour. And many of these establishments close from November to March.
If you plan to eat at the port, make a reservation in the morning before entering the cave. There's no cell service inside, so calling after you leave will be too late.
Where to eat if you leave the midday pass and want to avoid the crowds?
This is where it's best to turn inland. Manacor is eight kilometers from the caves, about twelve minutes by car, and the scene changes completely: inland prices, no queues, easy parking, and kitchens that are open all year round because their clientele is local.
A set lunch menu in Manacor costs between €13 and €16, compared to €25-€35 for an à la carte meal on the Porto Cristo promenade. One of them is Sa Vinya d'es Mayolet, the table at Es Mayolet, an agrotourism in Mallorca right in the Manacor countryside. Where to have dinner after the last afternoon tour?
If you take the 4:00 PM or 5:00 PM tour, you'll be out late in the afternoon, and the natural plan then is to stay in Porto Cristo to watch the light set over the port and have dinner there, or go up to Manacor and have a leisurely dinner.

Opening hours notice: kitchens inland close earlier than on the coast. After 10:30 pm in Manacor, the options are much more limited, while in the port they stay open a bit longer during peak season.
What are the options for eating between the visit and other plans in the area?
The Caves of Drach are rarely the only plan of the day, and that influences where to stop for lunch. The most common combinations are:
- Caves + Caves of Hams: they are two kilometres apart; you can eat between the two in Porto Cristo.
- Caves + beach: the coves of Llevant are to the south; it is best to eat before heading down.
- Caves + Manacor (pearls, Monday market, Rafa Nadal Academy): eating in the city fits naturally.
- Caves + inland estate: a long lunch and a long afternoon by the pool, the full-day plan.

- If you have to catch a flight. Between queuing, visiting and eating, half a day is gone; from Porto Cristo to the airport it's a long hour's drive.

How long does it take to get from the Caves of Drach to Manacor?
About twelve minutes by car, eight kilometers along the Ma-4020 road. This is the best route if you're leaving after the 2:00 pm tour and want to eat without queuing, because in Manacor the kitchens cater to local customers and don't get overwhelmed by the cave tours. Are there any restaurants near the Caves of Drach open in winter?
